The Power of Owning your Journey

They say we aren’t just a drop in the universe; instead, the entire universe exists within each of us. Every person is unique, just like every drop contributes to the ocean and every atom forms the universe.

Our journeys are our own, and they should not be dictated by anyone else. For me, my fitness journey has transformed over time. As a mom, finding the right moments to work out is essential, but it’s no longer just about burning calories or losing weight. Now, my priority is nourishing my body through proper nutrition. Each person’s body is different; we have our own ecosystems. Naturally, we respond to food in ways that vary. My biggest lesson has been understanding what fuels my body effectively and what causes disruptions. This is a journey of trial and error, often lengthy and sometimes frustrating. However, I refuse to take the easy way out and blame my genes. I firmly believe in taking ownership of my choices and my journey.

In the early days of my fitness and weight loss journey, I used to motivate myself with the saying, “If you don’t want to be called fat, don’t be fat.” I realize now that such statements can be triggering. Some might say, “You’re being too harsh” or “That’s unkind.” But let me clarify: I don’t overlook the struggles others face due to injuries or medical issues. My question to those who desire a slimmer figure but hesitate to put in the work is this: Have you done everything possible to lose weight? Have you tried every method? When I achieved my first fitness milestone, I was working full-time, commuting two hours each day, cooking dinner, and still finding time to run at 9:30 p.m., repeating it all five days a week. I lost 9.5 kilos in just a few months. It was challenging and often emotionally difficult, but it helped me reach my goal. Back then, I fueled my runs with negative emotions—not a great feeling, but it worked.

Today, my ambitions have shifted. I no longer want negativity to drive my fitness or my actions. I aspire to cultivate positivity, compassion for myself and others, and moments of stillness. I seek activities that soothe my nervous system. The high-energy fitness routines that once thrilled me don’t resonate anymore. While adventure has its place, I no longer want a life filled with endless stress. So if my evolving health goals and my exploration of natural nutrition make me imperfect and prompt others to call me fat, then let them. Because I own my journey.
