Of Rainy Afternoons

Spread the love
Paris Street, Rainy Day – oil-on-canvas painting (1877) by French artist Gustave Caillebotte
The petrichor, the thunder’s roar
A respite from the scorching heat
Down comes the torrential pour
Heaven’s nectar quenches the thirst
Of the parched earth so cursed

The leaves are bathed, their colours bright
The cobblestones glisten and softly gleam
Raindrops shatter shards of light
Like diamonds dancing in a dream

The soft birdsongs, they console
All human noises hushed obscure
A gentle balm that soothes the soul
This nature’s nectar is so pure
The toasted scent of burning wood
Pervading smoke a warm embrace
Hot cocoa steaming hand withstood
As worries fade without a trace

So lets feel joy and not refrain
Forget the weight of the worldly gloom
Dance with glee beneath the rain
On quiet afternoons that bloom
