Calyco Burning

Spread the love
Calyco
She was fire wrapped in flesh,
A soul too vast for chains,
They hunted her relentlessly,
Her anarchy left stains.

She was just. She was kind,
If she loved you, she loved blind,
A healer disguised, gentle her touch,
To soothe the weary soul and mind.

She loved a myriad things,
But never harm,
She held softness and warmth,
But weakness was not her charm.

Obedient, but never a follower,
A people servant, not a wallower,
Innocent, but never a fool,
Born wise and ready to rule.

The forces struck to silence her voice,
To smother her freedom, terms and choice,
Spite hung heavy, venom thick in the air,
And yet she still stood in composure and poise.

Eyes watched like hawks,
Ready to swoop, ready to pounce,
The town heckled, slandered, jeered,
Peace was nowhere to be found.

A silent strength beneath the storm.
Carrying pain, like a secret flame,
While the fools schemed and connived,
Playing her in their petty game.

Her eyes burned with retribution,
Her fist tightened in resolve,
To preserve her dignity,
The bully must fall.

She walked barefoot on coals,
Sword in hand, ablaze in heart,
The time had come to right the wrongs,
She was ready to play her part.

Freedom her cause,
The fall of tyrants her applause.
She rose, unbroken, fierce, aglow
Eternal fire. She is Calyco.
