Disobedience

Innocent and singing like a happy bud
Like a beautiful lotus growing in the mud
Living life through rose colored glasses
Singing praises in throngs of devout masses
Malleable and docile like a copper wire
Submissive and quiet in situations so dire
Dutiful daughter always playing the part
Domesticated and homely from the very start
The world full of treachery had other plans
Kindness was foreign in these unforgiving lands
No place for a gentle soul and thinking mind
Only the worst of the lot you can ever find
A seed was sown by one who just had enough
A life that was lived in the real and the rough
A fire was born, disobedience its flaming blaze
A clear conscience with a laser sharp fixing gaze
Reprimanded nastily for being too outspoken
Burnt at the stake for all to see as a token
Punished for daring where no one dare tread
Ridiculed relentlessly and left there for dead
Boots on necks and fists raised high in suppression
Disobedience, the only water for this venomous oppression
The streets would crack and bleed with fiery revolution
A tide of bodies rising — injustice's only retribution
They fought with broken hands and paid every price
Blood and sweat lost but honour won’t be the sacrifice
A lesson learnt a tad late; there’s no point being nice
No guarantees, no reciprocity, it’s all a game of dice
The pioneers, hollow-eyed, still chanted for harmony
Carrying the weight of wounds of grave intensity
Tomorrow unwritten, but love carved for eternity
Bruised hands clasped together, praying for serenity
If disobedience were a sin, they wore it as a glow
If disobedience were a sin, they let the whole world know
Battling one and all in the way, no matter friend or foe
Once a gentle bud, now an unstoppable undertow
In the end, arrogance and pride lay muddied on the ground
Peace and harmony in this chaos never to be found
Like beating a long dead horse, going round and round
Listening, watching like a hawk, sniffing angrily like a hound
It all came to naught, the conceited pompous glower
Nothing can take away from the beauty of a flower
Love always rises above hate, shining like a tower
Immortalized forever in a divine and starry shower
So let this be a lesson for oppressors never contrite
There is nowhere you can run and no way to hide
From the judgement of the Gods, heavenly time and tide
Playing god in someone’s life, the God’s will never let slide
So said the Calyco.
