Following on from last few blogposts, I felt a strong urge to put together a quick reference sheet. Anytime you find yourself drifting away from the present moment, just refer to this simple and practical guide.
I highly recommend printing it out and placing it somewhere visible – on your fridge, mirror, desk, or even inside your planner/ diary. So here it is:
7 Steps to Being Present and Staying There
- Recognize the Distraction (Recognize without Judgment)
- Reset with a Pause (Focus on the Breath)
- Identify the Resistance (What are you fighting in the moment?)
- Acknowledge the Resistance (Name the feeling)
- Accept the Resistance (Sit with it, however uncomfortable)
- Gently bring back attention to task at hand (“Let’s try again”)
- Set a Daily Intention – (Let this intention drive how you meet the moment)
