Embracing Freedom: A Reflection for 2025

The freedom to strive for greatness is often overlooked in favor safety or perfection. But greatness is not about being flawless – it’s about daring to grow, even at the risk of falling short. As Voltaire aptly said, “Best is the enemy of good.” Sometimes the pursuit of perfection stifles progress and robs us of the chance to succeed on our own terms. Striving for greatness requires us to define what success means for us. rather than adopting society’s metrics. It also comes with the responsibility of staying humble and using our achievements to inspire and uplift others.

AI: Friend or Foe? Our Lens of the Future

I’ve got a soft spot for AI tools and, who wouldn’t? Since the covid pandemic crashed our party and over-digitized out lives, we’ve been all about this digital buddy, especially with Chat GPT swooping in like a superhero! TBH, they’ve been lurking around like the cool kids at school since forever! We’ve been chatting up Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri about the weather and trivia, thinking we were having deep conversations, when all along we were just prepping for a future where our assistant would be a mashup of Google, YouTube, and Wikipedia! Welcome to the Chat GPT party!

Poker Face

I learned to hold my tears in,

Built a wall with every grin,

A mask of calm, no cracks, no sway,

That’s how I survive the day.

Eyes unread, my heart concealed,

Not a hint of what I feel.

Underneath, the storms will rage,

But my face stays on the stage.

I am stone, I am ice,

In this game, you pay a price.

I’ve mastered smiles, I play the role—

’Cause they don’t want truth, just what looks whole.

Your Body, Your Home-base, Your Sanctuary

Often, we forget that our body is our primary home. Treating ourselves with kindness and forgiveness is essential. This allows us to feel safe in this home. We should extend ourselves the same understanding we give to a friend. Replace negative self-talk with positive reinforcements, the same way we would to a dejected child. Accept your perceived weaknesses and consider turning them into aspirations. Are you providing your body and soul with the nourishment they crave? Do you like spending time in nature? Or indulging in a relaxing bath-soak after a long day. What activities help you connect with your home-base – your body.

The Power of Pause

ife in the olden days, steeped in agriculture was a mix of toil and simplicity. The work was grueling, hands hardened by the earth, but time moved slower. The days were measured by the sun and rest time decided by nature.

With the start of industrial revolution (18th & 19th century), everything changed. The drive for productivity, efficiency and economic growth led to glorification of long work hours. The ‘hustle-culture’ has been very much a part of the 20th century’s work culture, especially in capitalist societies. People were transformed into cogs of machinery of progress!

Variety is Verity! Discovering New Workout Styles

First thing, I walked in blind. I booked this place on the Mind Body app. I rocked up for an ‘all levels’ class as I interpreted this as beginners inclusive. I was informed by a very cheerful owner prior experience was expected! That said, the owner, Sing, was very friendly and welcoming and decided to demo some moves! As the group session began, he queried me to gauge my level of interest in boxing. The only thing that came close was watching Ong Bak movies (they feature a more traditional style of Muay Thai). With that, we started practicing some punches and the stance. The first thing that struck me as a little odd was the rhythmic to-ing and fro-ing in the stance. You don’t stand still. Apparently, it’s to be ready to strike any moment, like the shuffle in boxing/kickboxing, I suppose? As I got familiar with the moves, I started hitting with a bit more accuracy and power. I won’t say it came naturally and the routine tired me out REAL quick!! Simple yet hard. 40 minutes into this session and I was tired as a battle horse! I slept like a baby that night! Key features about Payak Muay Thai: Energetic vibe, authentic style. They even play some authentic Thai music, really getting into character. Check out Payak Muay Thai at Payak Muay Thai | Sydney Muay Thai Gym | 8/201 Parramatta Road, Homebush NSW, Australia. Giving this experience a rating of 8/10.
